OnePlanet Research Center introduces OpenPlanet; An approachable, digital environment for entrepreneurs and organizations in health, agriculture and nutrition

OpenPlanet is a secure online platform for sharing sensitive healthcare datasets for research and innovation. It brings health data holders and researchers together in “health communities.” Once a data holder approves a data request with a digital signature, researchers can get started with analysis and digital twinning. With this, OnePlanet aims to improve health and healthcare by promoting secondary use of health data for research and innovation.

The OpenPlanet platform features a detailed data catalog and offers the ability to make a specific data request according to all the requirements of the AVG and other legislation. It also integrates with myDre, a Trusted Research Environment from AnDREa originally developed at Radboudumc. This makes health data available to researchers without data holders losing control of the data.

At any time, it is possible to monitor how the data is being used and take action if necessary. The platform also ties in with developments within the Health-RI program.

OpenPlanet, originally developed on the basis of an ERDF grant, is being developed in close cooperation with research groups at the Radboudumc. Together we form the platform to best meet the needs of organizations with data and users of data.
For example, data from the PRISMA study, where research into risk factors for breast cancer is being conducted, is being shared via OpenPlanet to accelerate improvement in health and care around breast cancer.
